JAKARTA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The number of foreign visitors coming into Indonesia drifted up in the first seven months due to intensive promotions and improvements of infrastructures facilities in tourist destinations.

Indonesia's Central Statistics Bureau (BPS) announced on Monday that the country's foreign tourist arrivals ratcheted up 2.63 percent to 9.31 million people from January to July year-over-year.

Tourists from ASEAN member countries visiting Indonesia in the first seven months grew 17.6 on yearly basis, head of BPS Kecuk Suhariyanto said.

Malaysia followed by China, Singapore, Australia and Timor Leste is the most contributive country to the Indonesia's foreign tourist arrivals in the period, according to him.

Still the number of foreign tourist arrivals from Asian member countries, excluding ASEAN member nations, was down 8.66 percent from January to July, said Suhariyanto.

The Indonesian government has trimmed the target of foreign tourist arrivals into the country this year by 2 million to 18 million partly due to catastrophes, according to tourism ministry.

Last year, a total of 15.8 million foreign visitors visited Indonesia, the bureau said.
