TOKYO, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Nikkei index was essentially flat Tuesday morning as investors struggled to find fresh trading cues due to U.S. financial markets being closed overnight for a national holiday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 14.29 points, or 0.07 percent, from Monday to 20,634.48.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 6.21 points, or 0.41 percent, at 1,511.42.
Marine transportation, and iron and steel issues led notable gainers, while decliners comprised mining and rubber product-linked issues by the morning break.
