ATHENS, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of elderly were evacuated from a nursery and monastery as a wildfire was raging at the seaside resort of Loutraki, an hour's drive west of Athens, on Sunday, according to Greek national news agency AMNA.

According to the Fire Brigade, about 170 firefighters have deployed in the area, assisted by 4 water-dropping aircraft and 6 helicopters.

The flames do not threaten residential zones. No injuries have been reported.

The wildfire started on Saturday afternoon, but the battle to control it was hampered by strong winds. According to the meteorological service, they will recede from later Sunday.

Greece suffers from destructive wildfire every year, mainly during the summer period, which is mostly linked to heatwaves and arson.
