HARARE, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe's ruling party ZANU-PF on Sunday expressed appreciation to world leaders, special envoys, international delegations, local political players and the generality of Zimbabweans who attended the funeral service for the late former President Robert Mugabe.
Mugabe died on Sept. 6 and has been accorded the country's highest honor of national hero.
He will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare after a mausoleum being built for his body has been completed.
At least 11 African heads of state and representatives of heads of several countries, together with former heads of state from the Southern African Development Community, attended the funeral service for Mugabe at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Thousands of Zimbabweans also bade him farewell at Rufaro Stadium, also in Harare, on Thursday and Friday.
ZANU-PF secretary for information Simon Khaya Moyo said in that the strong attendance by the leaders and envoys from across Africa and beyond demonstrated how Mugabe's life and works had illuminated the world and awoken African consciousness through his policies on land reform and indigenous empowerment.
"Equally, the outpouring of grief by the leaders at the ceremony not only testifies to the excellent fraternal and cordial relations both present and past global leaders shared with the late Cde Mugabe during his tenure first as Prime Minister and later as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, but also the respectability which the late President commanded at the global stage," he said in a statement.
