Chinese enterprises praised for helping promote economic ties with Fiji

SUVA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese enterprises in Fiji have been praised here on Monday night for helping promote the economic and trade relationship between China and Fiji in recent years.

At a celebration of the third anniversary of the establishment of the China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji (CCOC), Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo said that over the past few years, there has been remarkable progress in the economic and trade relationship between China and Fiji.

The Chinese companies have done a great job in building roads, bridges, hospitals, and residential houses, he said, adding that their efforts have been payed off by the improvement of infrastructure and the social and economic development in the island nation.

The ambassador hoped that both Chinese and Fijian entrepreneurs will continue to demonstrate their entrepreneurship, strengthen cooperation of mutual benefit, promote the development of bilateral economic and trade relationship, bring tangible benefits to the two peoples, and bring the bilateral relations to a new level.

Wang Gang, president of the China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji, pledged that the chamber is determined to live up to the strengths of its members and Fiji society, to forge ahead and keep making contributions to the development of economy and trade as well as friendship between China and Fiji.

Nouzab Fareed, CEO of Fijian Holdings Ltd., and Neelesh Gounder, professor of the University of the South Pacific (USP) also appreciated the contributions made by the Chinese enterprises to the island nations' economies in the Pacific region.

They said the Chinese enterprises like those in Fiji have also helped boost the social and economic development in the region.
