TOKYO, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed slightly higher Tuesday after edging down earlier in the day on mounting concerns in the Middle East, but rising prices for crude oil sent energy issues higher and bolstered the market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 13.03 points, or 0.06 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,001.32.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 4.71 points, or 0.29 percent, to finish at 1,614.58.

Mining, oil and coal product, and consumer credit-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.

Markets here were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
