Int'l wood fair opens in Vietnam's HCM City

HO CHI MINH CITY, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The 2019 International Woodworking Industry Fair kicked off here Wednesday, featuring 493 firms from 32 countries and regions.

At the ongoing four-day event, the firms from such countries as China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey and the United States are showcasing their high-grade wood and plywood as well as advanced machines and equipment used to process wood and produce woodwork, said one of its organizers, the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam earned nearly 7.1 billion U.S. dollars from exporting wood and wood-based products, mainly to China, the European Union, Japan, South Korea and the United States in the first eight months of this year, seeing a year-on-year increase of 18.6 percent, according to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry.

Vietnam made wood and woodwork export turnovers of 9.4 billion U.S. dollars last year, with its three biggest markets being the United States, Japan and China.
