MOGADISHU, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. military said its special forces conducted an airstrike against al-Shabab terrorists in southern Somalia's port town of Kismayo, killing two terrorists.
The U.S. Africa Command (Africom) which oversees American troops on the African continent said the latest strike was conducted on Tuesday in cooperation with the Somali government after al-Shabab militants attacked a Somali patrol in Lower Jubba, northwest of Kismayo.
"Currently, we assess no civilians were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike," Africom said in a statement issued late Tuesday.
Africom, which has in the past conducted counter-terrorism airstrikes against the terror group in Somalia, said it will use all effective and appropriate methods to assist in the protection of the Somali people, including partnered military counter-terrorism operations with the government and the allied forces.
