RIGA, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Latvian customs has seized over three tons of narcotics raw materials, the Latvian State revenue service said on Wednesday.

State revenue service's customs department carried out raids in warehouses and apartments in the capital Riga and nearby town of Salaspils.

Altogether 3.3 tons of substances used for producing synthetic drugs amphetamine and methamphetamine were found in the warehouses and over 30,000 euros (33,000 U.S. dollars) in cash were seized in the apartments.

The black market value of the seized substances is about 9 million euros, the State revenue service estimated.

Three people have been arrested.

This is one of the biggest drug busts in Latvia this year. In May, over 400 kg of various narcotics destined for the Russian market were seized. In January, two tons of cocaine from Ecuador was found in central Latvia at a farm that was a transit point for transporting cocaine to other countries. And at the beginning of September, 300 kg of methamphetamine, hashish and ecstasy in a single shipment were seized.
