KIEV, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The law enforcement officers detained a suspect who threatened to detonate explosives and blow up the Metro bridge in Kiev on Wednesday.

According to media reports, the man was believed to be in his 30s and was wearing military-style camo gear. Earlier Wednesday he stopped his car on one of the Ukrainian capital's bridges and threatened to blow up the bridge.

The law enforcement agencies, the Ukrainian minister of internal affairs, the senior officers of the Kiev police as well as the city mayor rushed to the scene.

Due to the incident, the traffic of cars and trains on the bridge was halted.

"He has already been identified, he might be in the stage of alcoholic intoxication. He has already been spoken to over the phone... His demands are not yet clear and the motives are also not clear. Most likely, he has been taking drugs," Kiev mayor Vitaly Klitschko told the local media.

The police opened a criminal case under the article on preparation of a terror act. No one was hurt during the special operation conducted by law enforcement agencies. The police are working on the scene at the moment.
