YANGON, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's fishery export reached 544,533 tons worth 667 million U.S. dollars in the first 11 months (October-August) of the current fiscal year 2018-19, up 8,137 tons or 15.78 million dollars compared with the corresponding period of 2017-18, according to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation (MFF) Friday.

As Myanmar had banned fishing in no fishing season, the Fishery Department called for adopting good breeding practices to promote fishery export to neighboring countries.

Myanmar exports fishery products such as fish, prawn and crab to over 40 countries and regions including China, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Thailand.

At present, the authorities are exerting efforts in fishery resource conservation as well as sustainable development in the country's fishery sector.

Meanwhile, the MFF is planning to set up a public company to run livestock breeding and feed processing businesses for the development of the sector.

The MFF is also trying to set up fish and prawn farming zones in cooperation with the region and state governments, while inviting foreign experts to produce value-added products.

Moreover, the MFF is planning to explore new markets and adopt an advanced farming system to enhance the fish and prawn farming sector.
