HARARE, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The missing Zimbabwe junior doctor Peter Magombeyi was found by police in Nyabira about 40 km outside Harare Thursday night, ending days of speculation about his whereabouts.

Police confirmed Thursday night that the doctor, who was allegedly abducted by three unidentified men last Saturday, was found with no visible injuries to his body.

His alleged abduction had sparked demonstrations by medical doctors at government hospitals, who had vowed never to return to work until he is found.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said police were still to establish circumstances surrounding the doctor's disappearance.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that Dr Peter Magombeyi (26) who went missing on Sept. 14 has been found by the police at Nyabira," he said.

Nyathi said the doctor was due to be examined by health authorities to ascertain any injuries he may have suffered.

Since Monday, the Zimbabwe Hospitals Doctors Association (ZHDA) had submitted petitions to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the judiciary and parliament demanding the immediate release of Magombeyi, who is the acting president of the ZHDA.

He has been leading a strike by the junior doctors at public hospitals since Sept. 3. The doctors are demanding that their salaries, initially paid in U.S. dollars, be adjusted to the prevailing inter-bank rate.
