TIRANA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Albania's Armed Forces Academy (AFA) will be accredited as a higher education institution, the country's Defense Minister Olta Xhacka said on Friday.
Xhacka made the statement at a ceremony held on the occasion of the start of the new academic year 2019-2020.
This status enables not only the opening of the first bachelor's programs, but also the full accreditation of the AFA and its academic programs.
"Thanks to this transformation in the Armed Forces, a genuine system of meritocracy and a level of professionalism is being installed," Xhacka said.
A total of 182 military personnel will attend the AFA in the 2019-2020 academic year, the Defense Ministry said in a press release.
