DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President John Magufuli on Friday sacked Morogoro regional commissioner Steven Kebwe, two days after the east African nation's Prime Minister had complained over the region's poor public financial management.

John Kijazi, the chief secretary at State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, said in a statement broadcast live by state-run Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation that the president has appointed Lowassa Sanare, the Arusha region secretary of the ruling party - Chama Cha Mapinduzi - to replace Kebwe.

During last week's five-day official visit to Morogoro region, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa suspended 16 public officials from the region's different districts over misappropriation of public funds.

"The whole of Morogoro region is facing misuse of public funds. Government revenue is being collected but it ends up in people's private pockets and regional authorities are not taking any punitive measures against the officials," said Majaliwa.

In the statement, Kijazi said President Magufuli also appointed 12 new ambassadors, including former director general of the Tanzania Intelligence and Security Services Modestus Kipilimba who was relieved of his duties last week.

Kijazi said the new ambassadors' work stations and the date for their swearing in will be announced later.

He said the newly appointed ambassadors will fill in vacancies in countries including Egypt, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Enditem
