WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Friday that he is ending his 2020 presidential campaign.
"It's true: I'm ending my candidacy for president," de Blasio tweeted Friday morning.
In an explanatory note published by NBC News, de Blasio said that his campaign has been "a profound experience" for him.
"I saw America in full -- not as it appears on Twitter and cable news, where we're constantly shown a country hamstrung by our differences and unable to tackle the problems we face," he wrote.
De Blasio, who declared his candidacy in May this year, has struggled with national polls.
The 58-year-old Democrat is joining several others who have left the crowded Democratic primary field.
