CAIRO, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian terrorist was killed and two policemen were injured in a shootout during a police raid in the capital Cairo, the Egyptian Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

"The terrorist who belonged to Hasm movement took an apartment in Matariya neighborhood in Cairo as a hideout and a storehouse for weapons to use in aggressive operations," said the statement.

It added that the police raided the apartment and exchanged fire with the man, which led to his death and the injury of two policemen.

Egypt's police refer to Hasm group as the armed wing of the currently-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

Terror activities in Egypt have killed hundreds of policemen, soldiers and civilians since the military ousted former President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule and his Brotherhood group.

A Sinai-based group loyal to the Islamic State regional terrorist group claimed responsibility for most of the terror attacks in Egypt over the past few years.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian forces killed hundreds of terrorists and arrested thousands of suspects during the country's anti-terror war declared by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the army chief then, following Morsi's ouster. Enditem
