NAIROBI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Kenya 15s rugby team coach Paul Odera said on Monday that Kenya has showed its mantle in the revived Victoria Cup, which ended on Sunday losing the overall title to Zimbabwe Sables.

"This team has grown in leap and bounds and it now focused and ready to take on any challenge. I inherited a team that had a bad culture and they felt they could not grow or build on anymore. We started from zero and now we have a formidable and good foundation," Odera said.

The Victoria Cup had teams from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Zambia.

"It's a good competition. It offers test match experience for our African teams. Top teams like South Africa and Namibia will soon have a run for their money in the African 15s rugby competition," he added.

Kenya will compete at the Safari Sevens tournament, which runs from Oct. 19-21 in Nairobi. 14 teams have given a nod to the invitation to compete in the tournament, including South Africa, Spain, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Zambia. Enditem
