Chinese consulate general in Egypt's Alexandria holds reception to mark 70th anniversary of PRC founding

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A reception was held Monday night in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria by the Chinese Consulate General to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Delivering a speech at the reception, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said the founding of the People's Republic of China is a major historical event of the 20th century, which changed the destiny of the Chinese people and also influenced the whole world.

"In the past 70 years, China has gained many great achievements. The outcome of the Belt and Road Initiative is a testimony to the common development and prosperity of both China and the world. China will continue its efforts to contribute to global development and uphold international order," he said.

Chinese Consul General in Alexandria Zhao Liying said the Chinese consulate general in Alexandria will continue to promote cooperation and exchanges in various fields with Egypt.

At the reception, the Governor of Alexandria Governorate Abdul Aziz Qansua extended warm congratulations to all Chinese people.

An international photo exhibition and a collection of calligraphy artworks were also displayed at the reception. The photo exhibition told the stories of China's development and the artworks showed the Egyptian understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative.

At the end of the reception, distinguished guests cut the birthday cake together for China.
