SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The 26th "China Night" gala was staged Sunday night in Hayward City, east of San Francisco, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).
Hundreds of artists mainly from Silicon Valley and South Bay Area put on a spectacular show of classical Chinese dances, modern dancing, singing, traditional dances from Chinese ethnic groups, and Chinese martial arts that thrilled the audience at Chabot College Performing Arts Center in East Bay.
Deputy Chinese Consul General in San Francisco Zou Yonghong lauded the contributions made by overseas Chinese to the tremendous achievements scored by China in the past 70 years.
"Fundamental and profound changes have taken place in China during 70 years of its glorious struggles that brought the Chinese nation to a stage where China has never been closer to the goal of national renewal than it is today," she said.
China's economy is developing steadily and China's international standing has improved greatly, she added. "What China has achieved proves that the people of China have chosen correctly the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics."
Jenny Huang, general director of the gala, told Xinhua that Sunday's show featured special programs, mostly dances of various styles and genres, that best fit the theme of the PRC's birthday celebrations, which officially fall on Oct. 1, 2019.
"This is a festive party celebration for China's birthday that reflects the central idea of multi-cultural and multi-ethnic unity among various communities," she added.
