China clean sweep Kenya to lead women's volleyball World Cup with eighth straight win

China breezed to their eighth straight victory, maintaining a perfect 8-0 record at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup after dismantling Kenya 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-14) here on Tuesday.

SAPPORO, Japan, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- China eased past Kenya 3-0 here on Tuesday afternoon to extend their winning streak at the women's volleyball World Cup to eight.

With the 25-12, 25-12 and 25-14 victory, the Chinese women led the standings with a perfect 8-0 win-loss record in the 12-team round robin tournament.

While head coach Jenny Lang Ping rested several regular starters including Zhu Ting, Yuan Xinyue and Ding Xia, Gong Xiangyu led the Chinese scoring with 13 points and Li Yingying added 11.

The Chinese women reaped 26 points through Kenya's errors, compared to six for Kenya, who were led by Sharon Chepchumba Kiprono's nine points.

China jumped to an 11-3 lead after an 8-0 run and went on to take the first set 25-12. In the second set, China surged away on back of a 9-1 burst and never looked back.

Twelve teams competing here will have two days off with the action to resume on Friday when China take on the Netherlands.
