WINDHOEK, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Namibia cricket made history after emerging top of their group in their debut tri-nations Cricket World Cup League 2 series which concluded on Monday in the United States.
Namibia recovered from a loss to the USA and managed to beat Papua New Guinea in both of their matches on September 22 and 23.
Coach Pierre De Bruyn, in a voice statement from Cricket Namibia on Tuesday, said that he is proud of the boys who bounced back in the series considering the different playing conditions they endured away.
"During this series, we learned a lot of valuable lessons from an individual and planning point of view," he said.
"I think it is highly important that Namibia invests in an analytics program to analyze the opposition and the away conditions and to be more proactive about it."
De Bruyn gave credit to his squad which he described as a young squad, who showed heart and commitment to turn the tables as they showcased their talent in all three departments to end the series on top.
"We won our first One-day International tri-series, which is quite a massive achievement," he said, adding that he seeks to continue building this team, even more, going forward.
Meanwhile, De Bruyn said Namibia now needs to shift its focus to the global T20 World Cup qualifiers scheduled to be held in October and November in Dubai, which he described as a stiff challenge considering the pedigree of the teams at the tournament.
