KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Over 100 parachutists from more than 20 countries converged here on Thursday to participate in the annual Kuala Lumpur Tower International Jump 2019.

The BASE jumpers take their name from building, antenna, span and earth (BASE), the four types of fixed structures that these parachutists use for their sport.

Leaping 300 meters off the ground from the tower's sky deck, the 103 participants will perform a series of jumps between Sept. 26 and Sept. 29.

The event, held since 1999, includes day and night jumps, with members of the public being allowed to spectate from the sky deck and the landing site.

KL Tower Chief Executive Officer Rozlan Mohamed said the event will boost the country as a tourist destination, especially ahead of the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 campaign.

"This activity will put Malaysia on the international tourism maps as destinations for extreme sports activities," he said.

German Dominik Zarda, who is participating for the eighth time said the tower was a good location to carry out jumps due to its design, with the sky deck providing enough clearance from the main structure.

"Well, I have been here eight times and it never disappoints. People are super welcoming. It's a super cool building because it's kind of safe," he said.
