MONTEVIDEO/BOGOTA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Events to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) were held on Wednesday in Uruguay and Colombia.

In the Uruguayan capital city of Montevideo, activities at the Chinese embassy here on Wednesday night included a photo exhibition, a Peking Opera performance and a traditional tea ceremony.

Uruguayan Vice President Lucia Topolansky, some cabinet members and Chinese Ambassador to Uruguay Wang Gang, as well as members of the Chinese community attended the event.

Topolansky praised China's rapid development and its efforts in poverty reduction.

The potential for bilateral cooperation between Uruguay and China "is infinite," she told Xinhua.

Wang said the China-Uruguay strategic partnership, established in 2016, "continues to deepen" through high-level visits and the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, which promotes global cooperation.

In the Colombian capital Bogota, hundreds gathered to mark the upcoming 70th founding anniversary of the PRC.

Paula Marcela Arias, director of Colombia's Higher School of Public Administration, said it is vital for the country's schools to increase students' knowledge of China's development in recent decades, adding that China is a true partner.

Chinese people's capacity to work together towards shared ideals sets an example for Colombian people to follow, she added.
