BUDAPEST, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's first E-sports arena has been inaugurated here on Friday, according to official sources.
"The new E-sports arena is a milestone in the life of Hungarian E-sports," Tamas Deutsch, president of the MTK sports club, building the arena, told at the inauguration ceremony.
Quoted by Hungarian news agency MTI, Deutsch described the opening event as a festive occasion at Friday's press conference, and underlined that the 2.1 million-euro facility was "beautiful."
He added that the MTK E-sports department would physically find a home here, but it would also give home to conferences and other events that he expects to be profitable.
"There will be a national competition next week, but more tournaments in the Central and Eastern European region can be held in the brand new arena," he noted.
The 750-800 m2 facility has 201 seats, rarely matched in Europe and operates similarly to the E-sports arenas of Berlin and Cologne, in Germany.
The playing field is made up of decomposable, mobile elements, and the LED panels provide a perfect visual experience for the fans, according to MTI.
According to local media, the most popular games played in Hungary as e-sports are Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, and Hearthstone.
