BERLIN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Green party reached a new record level of support among German voters and were on par with German Chancellor Angela Merkel's political union Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union(CDU/CSU), the Politbarometer opinion poll published on Friday by public broadcaster ZDF showed.

While the governing CDU/CSU lost one percent of support among German voters, Germany's Green Party gained three percent. Both parties stood at 27 percent, the poll found.

The far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) gained one percent and ranked in third place at 14 percent, followed by the CDU/CSU's coalition partner Social Democratic Party (SPD) with 13 percent. The German Left Party as well as the liberal democrats of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) stagnated and stood at seven and six percent respectively.

The public political debate in Germany would be "dominated" by the topics of climate and climate protection, according to ZDF.

The German government had presented its climate action plan last week with which Germany is aiming to achieve its climate goals set for 2030.

More than half of Germans did not think that the measures stipulated by the government in its climate action plan were going far enough, according to the ZDF poll.

Particularly dissatisfied with the action plan were supporters of the Green Party as well as the Left Party with 78 and 64 percent respectively.

More than 60 percent of voters Merkel's coalition partner SPD were also considering the measures of the governmental climate action plan as not sufficient. Even for 39 percent of the supporters of the CDU/CSU, the measures were not going far enough.

Only a fifth of Germans stated that the measures of the governmental climate action plan were "just right" while 13 percent said that they were going too far.

In terms of climate policy, more than half of Germans were attributing the most competences to the German Green Party, while the other parties would "hardly play a role" in this regard, according to the poll.

Only ten percent of voters had attributed the largest competences in climate policy to the governing CDU/CSU party, followed by the SPD with three percent.
