BRATISLAVA, September 27 (Xinhua) -- After six rounds played in the Slovak premier hockey league Tipsport Liga, Slovan Bratislava moved to the top spot in the rankings, but are leading Miskolc and Kosice only thanks to a better score.
Bratislava had very little trouble defeating the struggling team of Zvolen 4-1 on Friday. Slovan's 27-year-old attacker Tomas Zigo had a great night, scoring the first two goals of the match for the team from the capital city and adding one assist. Bratislava won their first game on home ice.
Last season's champions from Banska Bystrica are still struggling in the new one, losing to Nove Zamky 2-0 on home ice and failing to score even once. The visitors, on the other hand, managed to snap their two-game losing streak and moved up one spot in the rankings to tenth place.
Poprad scored their first away victory of the season, defeating top-ranked Miskolc - one of the two Hungarian teams playing in the Slovak league - 3-2 thanks to a late goal by Patrik Svitana who also assisted on the opener. The game winner marks Svitana's 100th overall goal in the Tipsport Liga.
The fans in Trencin witnessed ten goals with a happy ending for their favorites that marked their first home triumph of the season. Trencin outscored the bottom-placed Liptovsky Mikulas 6-4. The 23-year-old Jakub Sukel scored a hat-trick for the visitors, but it was not enough to lift his struggling team to victory.
Detva, occupying the penultimate spot in the league rankings, achieved a surprising 5-3 victory on the ice of last season's runners-up Nitra Hockey Club. Jan Sykora led the visitors to their first win of the season with two goals and one assist.
Budapest, the other Hungarian team, showed no mercy to Kosice, triumphing 5-1 and ending the visitor's four-game winning streak. Istvan Sofron laid the foundation for his team's win with two goals in the first period.
