BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Domestic disaster film "The Captain" led the Chinese mainland box office on Saturday, the China Movie Data Information Network said Sunday.

It grossed 55.15 million yuan (around 7.80 million U.S. dollars) on the second to last day of its presale, accounting for more than 33 percent of the daily total.

"The Captain" is a cinematic portrayal of a real-life event that occurred on May 14, 2018, when a captain of Sichuan Airlines managed a safe emergency landing and brought home the 119 passengers and nine crew members on board safely.

Coming second and third are "The Climbers" and "My People, My Country," two domestically-produced films to be screened in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Also on presale, the two films raked in 43.21 million yuan and 12.32 million yuan respectively.

These three films will be screened on Sept. 30, a day before the week-long National Day holiday.
