Tokyo stocks close higher as market concerns ease

TOKYO, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher on Tuesday as concerns for the market eased.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average increased 129.40 points, or 0.59 percent, from Monday at 21,885.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange ended 15.20 points, or 0.96 percent, higher at 1,603.00.

Pulp and paper, securities brokerage, and rubber product and machinery issues comprised those that increased the most.
