Red Star crushes Olympiacos 3-1 in UEFA Champions League

BELGRADE, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Serbian Red Star stunned Greek Olympiacos with two quick goals in the final minutes at the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The Serbian champion shown greater ambition in the beginning of the match and endangered Olympiacos with some long-passes and shots.

The Greek league runner-up soon recovered and created several chances of their own. After Red Star prevented a counterattack with a foul, Olympiacos used a free kick to place the ball to Ruben Semedo who pushed it into the net in the 37th minute with a powerful shot.

The tables were turned at the 58th minute as Olympiacos’s Yassine Benzia was sent off after picking up a second yellow card.

Minutes later, Milos Vulic who entered at halftime set the score even, after catching a long pass from Tomane and sending the ball behind keeper Jose Sa for 1-1.

The match then saw powerful attacks from Red Star, with Marko Marin standing out with his playmaking abilities. In the 87th minute he sent the ball straight to the head of Nemanja Milunovic from a corner kick, who scored for 2-1.

Just three minutes later, in another corner, Marin placed the ball to Richmond Boakye who delivered another header to surprise the visiting team.

With three points in the standings, the Serbian champion is now second-ranked in Group B, behind German Bayern Munchen. Olympiacos is third with just one point from two matches, while Tottenham is at the bottom of the table.

Red Star will play its next game in England against Tottenham, while Olympiacos host Bayern.
