Extremist arrested for planning attack in Tunisia

TUNIS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian National Unit for Terrorist and Organized Crime Research arrested a religious extremist who planned a bomb attack, a source from Tunisian Interior Ministry told Xinhua on Friday.

According to the source, the extremist was arrested on the evening of Thursday to Friday following a raid on one of the houses in the town of Al Jem in Mahdia, the coastal province in eastern Tunisia.

After confessing, the extremist affirmed that he was planning to commit a terrorist attack using a remotely-controlled explosive device.

The preliminary investigation revealed that he communicated with numerous terrorist elements abroad and pledged allegiance to the extremist group Islamic State.
