LONDON, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- James Milner kept his nerve to score a 95th minute penalty to secure a 2-1 win over Leicester City and maintain Liverpool's 100 percent win record in the Premier League, denying former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers a happy return to Anfield as coach of Leicester.

James Maddison's 79th minute goal had looked as if it would end Liverpool's winning start to the season when he cancelled out Sadio Mane's first half opener, but when Mane went down in the Leicester penalty area deep into injury time, the referee pointed to the spot and VAR confirmed the decision.

Veteran midfielder Milner kept his cool to score the winning goal, and Liverpool have now won their last 17 league matches in a run stretching back into last season, with the only sour note for the Reds being a possible injury to Mohamed Salah after a bad challenge from Leicester's Hamza Choudhury.

Liverpool are eight points clear at the top after two goals from Adama Traore stunned Manchester City and helped Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 2-0 away win over Pep Guardiola's side.

Chelsea's young guns continue to impress as Frank Lampard's men ran out impressive 4-1 winners away at Southampton.

Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount were again on the scoresheet as Chelsea cruised to a comfortable win.

Tottenham's wretched week continued in the wake of their 7-2 Champions League humiliation at home to Bayern Munich as they followed that defeat up with another loss at Brighton.

Spurs had most of the ball, but lost 3-0 to a more incisive Brighton & Hove Albion side, who opened the scoring through Neil Maupay in the third minute and sealed the win with two goals from Aaron Connelly in the 32nd and 65th minute.

Tottenham's misery was compounded by an injury to goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris, with the Frenchman set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a dislocated shoulder.

David Luiz's ninth minute header was enough to give Arsenal a 1-0 win at home to Bournemouth and lift Unai Emery's side up to third in the table.

Meanwhile, Manchester United's dreadful start to the season continued with a 1-0 defeat away to struggling Newcastle United.

Newcastle debutant Matthew Longstaff scored a 72nd minute winner to lift the Magpies out of the relegation zone and inflict further woe on United and their beleaguered boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Crystal Palace sealed a dramatic 2-1 win away to West Ham United after Jordan Ayew's VAR-assisted 87th minute winner completed the visitors' comeback from a goal down.

Sebastian Haller had put West Ham ahead in the 54th minute, only for Patrick Van Aanholt to level from the penalty spot to set up the dramatic finish.

Jeff Hendrick's goal saw Burnley win 1-0 against Everton, who slipped to a fourth consecutive league defeat and into the bottom three, with their cause not helped by Seamus Coleman being sent off for two yellow cards.

Watford and Sheffield United shared the points in a 0-0 stalemate, while Aston Villa thumped Norwich 5-1 in a game between two recently promoted sides. Wesley scored Villa's two opening goals as they ran riot at Carrow Road for their first away win of the season.
