Wechat, a leading Chinese social media and mobile payment platform, reported robust overseas payment transactions during the week long National Day holiday as more and more Chinese users travel abroad.

BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Leading Chinese social media and mobile payment platform WeChat reported robust overseas payment transactions during the National Day holiday as more and more Chinese users travel abroad.

Japan posted the largest number of WeChat payment transactions during the weeklong holiday, followed by Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Australia and Singapore, the company said in a report.

WeChat's mini-programs were used most frequently in the United States between Oct. 1 and 7, followed by Malaysia.

The report revealed that users in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan outnumbered other cities in making overseas tours. Thailand, the United States and Japan were the most popular destinations, though some Chinese had traveled as far as to Renca in central Chile.

Rolled out by Tencent in 2011, WeChat boasted about 1.13 billion monthly active users by the end of June.
