China's agricultural product wholesale prices edge up

BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Wholesale prices of China's agricultural products went up Wednesday, according to a report released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

By 2 p.m. Wednesday, the agricultural product wholesale price index stood at 112.65, up 0.35 points from the previous day.

The average wholesale price of pork grew 2.3 percent from the last day to 39.81 yuan (about 5.6 U.S. dollars) per kg, while the figure of eggs gained 0.9 percent to 10.63 yuan per kg.

Average price of 28 types of vegetables monitored by the government remained flat, while that of six types of fruits gained 0.2 percent to 5.14 yuan per kg.

The index is compiled from data collected from around 200 agricultural wholesale markets and is updated daily based on the weighted average of price indices for goods including vegetables, fruit, aquatic products, livestock products, cereals and edible vegetable oil.
