SKOPJE, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- North Macedonia edged Slovenia 2-1 on Thursday night to collect their fourth win in Group G in the seventh round of the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers.

The national team of North Macedonia earned its 11th point thanks to two goals of midfielder Elif Elmas. Elmas opened the scoring in the 50th minute after a combination of short passes with his teammate Goran Pandev and provoked rapture on the standings of the "Tose Proeski Arena" in capital Skopje.

Slovenia laid siege to the opponents but it left open space for fast counter-attacks of the host players, which led to Elmas'second goal. He scored from close range in the 68th minute after an one-on-one duel against Slovenia's goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Slovenia got one back in the injury time from penalty kick by Josip Ilicic.

Poland are leading Group G with 16 points before Austria with 13 and North Macedonia on the third position with the same 11 points as Slovenia. Israel are standing fifth with 8 points, while the last spot is reserved for Latvia with nil points.
