Armed police rush to rescue after east China highway overpass collapse

Three people have been confirmed dead and two others injured in the collapse that happened in Wuxi, eastern China's Jiangsu Province.

BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Around 500 armed police officers helped with the rescue efforts at the site of a highway overpass collapse in Wuxi, eastern China's Jiangsu Province, China's armed police force said Friday.

Following a request from the Wuxi municipal emergency management authorities, local armed police forces dispatched 130 armed police officers to the scene within two hours after the overpass collapsed at around 6:10 p.m. Thursday.

More than 380 armed police officers, along with 20 engineering vehicles, arrived there later to assist with the rescue.

Three people have been confirmed dead and two others injured in the collapse that happened at the section of National Highway 312 in Wuxi.
