Kenyans win champions of Albania's 4th edition half marathon 2019

TIRANA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Laban Cheruiyot and his compatriot Christine Moraa Oigo won the champions of the 4th edition of Tirana Half Marathon 2019 for men's and women's categories respectively here on Sunday.

Kenya's Laban Cheruiyot completed successfully the 21 km men's category for 1 hour, 6 minutes and 44 seconds, followed by his compatriots Evans Kipngetich Kipngetich Tanui (1:06:47) and Moses Kipruto Kibire (1:10:32).

For the women's category, the 1st place went to Kenyan Christine Moraa Oigo who completed the race for 1 hour, 20 minutes and 32 seconds, followed by her compatriot Gladys Jepkurui Biwott (1:24:53) and the Albanian Anna Pedrazzini (1:30:28).

The prizes for both men's and women's categories were 2,500, 1,500 and 1,000 euros for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Somet 2,500 runners from 40 countries around the world participated in the race, which also includes Tirana 10 km and "We too"2.3 km categories.

Before the start of the race, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, who also ran for the 10 km category, welcomed all the participants across the world including those from Canada, China, Japan, United States, and New Zealand, and thanked all those who chose to participate in this event for a special cause.

At the award ceremony, President of the Albanian Athletic Federation Gjergj Ruli announced that Albania's capital will organize a full 42 km marathon at next year's edition.
