MOGADISHU, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has confirmed three of its staff were slightly injured during Sunday's mortar attack on the UN and AU missions' compounds in Mogadishu, the Somali capital.

The AU mission, however, said in a statement issued on Sunday evening that increased terror attacks by the militant group, al-Shabab, will not derail efforts to pacify the Horn of Africa nation.

"Three AMISOM staff were slightly injured and have received treatment. The situation has since been contained," AMISOM said hours after the attack on the Halane base camp in Mogadishu.

Al-Shabab fired several mortar bombs into the Halane base camp, which houses AMISOM, UN and other international agencies committed to serving the people of Somalia at around 1:15 pm local time on Sunday.

The militant group which is fighting to overthrow the government claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

The AU mission said necessary precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety and security of its staff.

"The attack by al-Shabab will not diminish AMISOM's resolve to carry out its important mandate to drive out the terrorists and bring lasting peace and security to Somalia," it said.
