Chinese film "My People, My Country" gains 2.14 mln USD at Northern American box office

A Chinese film marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC has gained over two million U.S. dollars at the Northern American box office. It grossed more than 300 million dollars on the Chinese mainland within 16 days.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- "My People, My Country," a Chinese film celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), brought in more than 300,000 U.S. dollars on its second weekend in North America, pushing its North American cume to 2.14 million dollars.

According to studio figures released by U.S. analytics firm Comscore on Monday, the film has taken in 2,141,707 dollars in North America through Sunday since its premiere on Sept. 30 in selected theaters in the United States and Canada. "My People, My Country" collected 303,541 dollars from 83 locations with a per-theater average of 3,657 dollars this weekend, listed No. 17 on the North American weekend box-office chart.

Featuring seven short stories and seven directors led by renowned Chinese director Chen Kaige, the anthology film captures important historical moments since the PRC's founding in 1949, aiming to rekindle the shared memories of the Chinese around the world.

"My People, My Country" has grossed more than 2.6 billion yuan (about 308 million dollars) on Chinese mainland over the past 16 days, according to Maoyan, a Chinese film database. Enditem
