JERUSALEM, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese club Guangzhou R&F striker Eran Zahavi scored one goal in Israel's 3-1 home win over Latvia on Tuesday and extended his lead on the Euro 2020 qualifiers' top scorers table.

Zahavi has so far scored 11 goals in the qualifying tournament, ahead of Russia's Artem Dzyuba (9 goals), and England's Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane (8 goals each).

The win, in Group G, gave Israel a ray of hope to qualify for the finals, which will be held in 12 cities across Europe in June and July 2020.

A total of 9,150 fans at Turner Stadium in Israel's southern city of Beer Sheva saw Israel take the lead in the 16th minute by Sevilla FC striker Munas Dabbur.

Zahavi doubled the score 10 minutes later, after an accurate pass by Dabbur.

Latvia's striker Vladimir Kamess gave a little hope for the visitors scoring in the 40th minute, but Israel found the net again only 2 minutes later as Dabbur scored his second goal - thanks to Zahavi's assist.

After 8 rounds out of 10 in the 6-team Group G, Israel is currently in 5th place with 11 points, while Latvia is at bottom with nil point.

Poland leads the group with 19 points, already securing its ticket to the finals.

Austria is currently the runner-up with 16 points, followed by Slovenia and North Macedonia (11 points each).
