JERUSALEM, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Israel's army said on Thursday it had downed a drone crossing from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory.

An Israeli military spokesperson said in a statement that Israeli soldiers identified the drone in the early afternoon hours near the southern Gaza Strip fence and intercepted it.

No injuries were reported. The Israeli troops collected the remains of the drone for further investigation.

In September, Palestinian militants in Gaza Strip attempted to attack an Israeli military patrol near the border fence using an explosive device dropped from a drone. No soldiers were injured, but their vehicle was damaged.

The incident came amid weekly demonstrations held by Palestinians near the fence between Gaza Strip and Israel to protest the 12-year-long crippling blockade that Israel has imposed on the coastal Palestinian enclave.

Over 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the rallies began in March 2018, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza.
