LUSAKA Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least five people died while 12 others sustained serious injuries when a vehicle they were traveling in was involved in an accident along a high way.
Esther Mwaata-Katongo, Zambia Police Spokesperson said the accident happened on the Great North Road on Wednesday night when the driver of a minibus hit into a stationary vehicle.
In a statement, the police spokesperson said the dead included two females and three males.
The police spokesperson said the accident occurred when the driver decided to take a u-turn but was in the process hit by an on-coming truck.
Zambia has seen increased road traffic accidents in recent weeks, forcing President Edgar Lungu to direct the country's Road Transport and Safety Agency to increase highway patrols. Enditem
