Chinese legislator calls for upholding multilateralism at IPU assembly

BELGRADE, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- While attending the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) here in the Serbian capital, Hao Mingjin, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, called on all countries to safeguard the international system with the United Nations (UN) as its core and firmly support multilateralism.

Hao headed a Chinese delegation to attend the IPU assembly, which was held from Oct. 13 to 17 in Belgrade.

He said that the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, while the authority of the international law and order is being impacted. All countries should jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and maintain international fairness and justice, he added.

When attended the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Parliamentary Forum during the assembly, Hao said the BRICS countries should build a closer and broader partnership, deepen practical cooperation, enhance the people's well-being in the field of health, and work together to promote the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
