MONTEVIDEO, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- A testimonial match for former Manchester United and Uruguay striker Diego Forlan will be held in Uruguayan capital Montevideo in December.

The fixture will pit members of Uruguay's 2010 World Cup and 2011 Copa America squads against "Forlan's friends" and will be played at Estadio Centenario on December 28.

"It will be great to play this match and bring all of my friends together because we're not going to have many more chances to be in the same place and have fun like this," Forlan told a news conference on Friday.

Among those to have already confirmed their participation are Barcelona striker Luis Suarez and former Uruguay captain Diego Lugano, he said.

Forlan retired from football in August after a professional career spanning more than two decades.

The 40-year-old was voted the best player of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, in which the Celeste reached the semifinals. He was also a key member of the Uruguay team that won the 2011 Copa America in Argentina.

Forlan's career included spells at Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Villarreal. He was capped 112 for Uruguay, scoring 36 goals.
