MADRID, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona moved to the top of the Liga Santander table after they enjoyed a comfortable win away to Eibar on an afternoon when Real Madrid suffered a surprise defeat in Mallorca.

Samuel Umtiti returned after injury for Barca and Antoine Griezmann, Leo Messi and Luis Suarez combined more effectively than they had previously this season.

Griezmann put Barca ahead with a left foot shot in the 13th minute, Messi doubled their lead after a move involving Griezmann and Suarez in the 57th minute and then teed up Suarez to seal the win shortly afterwards.

Real Madrid would have overtaken Barca to return to the top of the table with a win in Mallorca, but Zinedine Zidane's men crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat in the Son Moix Stadium in Saturday's last game.

Real Madrid were without the injured Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Tony Kroos and Rafael Varane was rested, but Zidane still fielded a strong side including Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo, with Thibaut Courtois returning in goal.

Recently promoted Mallorca took the lead thanks to Lago Junior's seventh minute goal and Real Madrid struggled to respond as Luka Jovic, Isco and James Rodriguez struggled for form and Alvaro Odriozola was sent off for two yellow cards.

Atletico Madrid made it three consecutive home games without a win as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Valencia.

Diego Costa put Atletico ahead from the penalty spot in the 36th minute after the VAR confirmed that Denis Cheryshev had committed handball

The Russian later saw a show bounce back off the bar before Dani Parejo assured a share of the points with an 82nd minute free kick, although Valencia ended up with 10 men after Lee Kang was sent off in the 91st minute.

The bad news for Atletico was an ankle injury suffered by youngster Joao Felix, who will be out of action for at least a month.

Angel Rodriguez came on as a substitute at the start of the second half and scored both goals as Getafe beat Leganes 2-0 in the south Madrid derby. The defeat leaves Leganes bottom of the table without a win in nine games.

The round of matches kicked off on Friday as Granada continued their excellent start to the season with a 1-0 win at home to Osasuna.
