BERLIN, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Newly promoted Cologne secured their first home win of the season after beating newcomers Paderborn 3-0 and Hoffenheim's 2-0 victory denied Schalke the chance to move atop the standings at the closer of the eighth round in Bundesliga on Sunday.

Cologne assumed control from the kick-off and needed only nine minutes to open the scoring as newcomers Paderborn were unable to clear the ball following a corner allowing Simon Terodde to tap home the opener from close range.

As the match progressed, Paderborn grew into the game but for all that Cologne doubled their advantage at the hour mark after Louis Schaub nodded home Kingsley Schindler's cross to the far post.

The second goal took the wind out of Paderborn's sails meanwhile Cologne weren't done with the scoring as Sebastiaan Bornauw marked his first ever Bundesliga goal by a header in the 85th minute.

With the result, Paderborn remain the only team without a win to stay in the Bundesliga bottom whereas Cologne climbed from the 17th to the 15th position in the standings.

Schalke missed the chance to move atop the table as the second-half goals from Andrej Kramaric and substitute Ihlas Bebou ensured Hoffenheim second-straight victory.

The "Royal Blues" controlled the proceedings in the first half and posed a lot of threat in front of Hoffenheim's goal area.

Nevertheless, neither Daniel Caligiuri, who rattled the woodwork with a free kick, nor Alessandro Schopf, who headed over the target from promising position, were able to break the deadlock.

The hosts showed a vital sign before the break when Stefan Posch and Dennis Geiger produced the first clear-cut opportunities for Hoffenheim.

After the restart, Schalke started where they left off but they were unable to threaten Hoffenheim, as they were in the first half.

Meanwhile, Hoffenheim shocked the visitors out of the blue with 20 minutes remaining when Bebou's shot on target got defused by goalkeeper Alexander Nubel before Kramaric benefitted on the rebound to slot home the opener in the 72nd minute.

To make things worse for Schalke, Bebou got his name on the scorecards as well as he controlled a long ball and overcame defender Salif Sane and goalkeeper Nubel with a well-placed shot in the closing period.

With the victory, Hoffenheim jump from the 12th to the 11th place while Schalke slumped from the 6th to the 7th position in the standings.
