TRIPOLI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The eastern Libyan town of Umm Ar Rizam is calling for urgent assistance as deadly floods overwhelm the town, Alwasat news site reported Monday.

The report said a woman and two of her children were killed, and an infant was lost because of the floods.

Abdul-Wanis Awad, head of Umm Ar Rizam's Municipal Council, appealed to the authorities concerned for urgent help as floods and rain threaten to claim more lives.

Umm Ar Rizam suffers poor infrastructure like many other Libyan cities and towns.

Many infrastructure development projects in Libya have been suspended after most foreign companies left the country because of the deteriorating security conditions after the 2011 uprising that toppled the late leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime.
