Macao's visitor arrivals up 8.0 pct in September

MACAO, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Visitors arrivals to Macao increased 8.0 percent year-on-year to 2.76 million in September 2019, with same-day visitors (1.39 million) surging 20.4 percent and overnight visitors (1.37 million) dropping 2.3 percent, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics department said on Tuesday.

The latest report from Statistics and Census Service showed that the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 1.3 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.4 days) and same-day visitors (0.2 day) remaining unchanged.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland increased 5.7 percent year-on-year to 1.92 million, mainly from Guangdong province and Hunan province.

Visitors from Hong Kong SAR (564,771) and China's Taiwan region (88,327) grew by 27.2 percent and 6.4 percent respectively, whereas those from South Korea (41,590) fell by 28.6 percent.

Analyzed by way of transport, visitor arrivals by land surged by 32.5 percent year-on-year to 2.05 million in September. Among them, 1.55 million arrived through the Border Gate and 287,362 via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Visitor arrivals by air rose 16.3 percent year-on-year to 294,677, while those by sea declined 45.0 percent to 416,713.
