The endangered wild horses of Namibia have welcomed two new fillies after rains in the desert. The new foals bring the number of wild horses in the country to 74.

WINDHOEK, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Wild horses of Namibia have welcomed two new foals, the Namibia Wild Horses Foundation has announced.

In an interview, secretary of the Namibia Wild Horses Foundation Christine Swiegers said Monday that two new fillies were born on October 20.

"Good news is that. It is important that the female population be replenished," said Swiegers.

This brings the number of foals born this year to three, with one having been born in September.

According to Swiegers, the wild horses are currently thriving while hyenas are currently not a threat.

"Hyenas have not been seen around so they might have moved off temporarily in search of easier prey," she said.

In July, the non-profit organization reported that the wild horses were thriving after it rained in the desert.

The new foals so far bring the number of wild horses to 74 in the country.
