MADRID, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona's French international defender, Samuel Umtiti is a late absentee from the squad that travels to face Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old defender suffered a knee injury in the club's Tuesday morning training session ahead of their flight to the Czech Republic.

"In the final part of the session on Tuesday at the Ciutat Esportiva (training ground) Samuel Umtiti picked up a bruised knee and so the French central defender misses the trip to take on Slavia Prague," informs the Barcelona website, who joins Sergio Roberto (also knee) on the Barca injury list.

Umtiti made his first appearance of the season in Saturday's 3-0 win away to Eibar after stating the campaign with the same knee problem which limited him to just 14 league appearances last season.

The defender struggled for most of last year with a cartilage problem in his left knee and the club will be worried that it was his left knee which suffered a knock on Tuesday.

Barca have four points from their two Champions League matches to date with a draw away to Borussia Dortmund and a 2-1 win at home to Inter Milan.
