BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Defending champions River Plate secured a place in the Copa Libertadores final on Tuesday by completing a 2-1 aggregate victory over Argentine rivals Boca Juniors.

Having won the first leg 2-0 at home, River endured a tense final 15 minutes at La Bombonera after Jan Hurtado's late close-range strike gave the hosts a glimmer of hope.

However River survived to set up a meeting between either Flamengo or Gremio, who clash in the second leg of their all-Brazilian semifinal at Rio's Maracana stadium on Wednesday. The first leg finished in a 1-1 draw at Arena do Gremio in Porto Alegre.

River, who defeated their traditional foes Boca in last year's final, are aiming to win their fifth Copa Libertadores trophy and their third in five years.

Flamengo's only Libertadores triumph came in 1981 while Gremio won the last of their three titles in 2017.
